Bariatric surgery kills 5 percent of patients: Weight loss surgery takes deadly toll

Mike Adams, the Health Ranger

Our soils no longer contain trace minerals or even the macro minerals that the human body was designed to consume, so our fresh produce (fruits, vegetables, etc.) lacks these minerals. And when it comes to factory foods, nearly all of the food products on grocery store shelves is completely devoid of all but a few minerals. Did you know that white flour has 90 percent less mineral content than whole grain wheat? You lose almost 100 percent of minerals like magnesium, zinc and calcium when you process these grains.

You are not going to get as good food as you can get when you're preparing fresh meat and vegetables, because it's sitting in a bag. We use a barrier packaging, which I'm going to take a moment to explain. Most foods are in a paper bag with a plastic lining to keep the oils from leaking through. We actually use a food-graded PVC plastic bag. It doesn't allow any oxygen through the bag, in or out. We have a freshness valve on it, just like a coffee bag -- the same material as a coffee bag.

The future of food fabrication, intellectual property and seeds

When you want to create a batch of apples, vegetables or chicken, you're going to have to pay a fee to the company that owns the rights to that food. "Now wait a minute," you might say. "How can a company own the rights to foods that occur in nature? How can they make me pay for that food when I can go out and get it for free?" This is where the future gets rather messy, because we're now talking about intellectual property. Rewind to the present day, and take a look at the actions of our favorite corporate company, Monsanto.

A diet containing a variety of cereals, vegetables, fruit, and animal products is much more apt, even if only because of chance, to provide an adequate amount of these essential nutrients. Second, a monotonous diet increases the probability of developing allergic reactions to foods. Nutrient Shortage For over 99% of man's existence on earth, there was no need to apply intelligence toward food selection. The only important fact was whether the food was poisonous or not.

The raw foods diet: The taste alone is worth it!

Mike Adams, the Health Ranger

Foods provided by nature -- raw, uncooked and unprocessed berries, nuts, seeds, vegetables, roots, fruits and so on. This is what was available to the body, so it only makes sense that raw foods offer perfect compatibility with the human body. That's one reason people might choose to eat raw foods, but it's not the only reason. You might also decide to pursue a raw foods diet because of the taste experience. Even if you don't care about health benefits, the taste experience is incredible. A raw foods diet is not about eating salads, carrots and celery sticks all day long.

CEO of Seventh Generation explains the benefits of natural cleaning products to health and home

One of the reasons that we're so focused on cleaning products made with vegetables instead of petroleum is that people don't think that when they clean their homes with natural cleaners like Seventh Generation, they're actually helping to reduce our dependence upon petroleum. Mike: It's a very good point. We really have to think about all the factors that come into play with these products. One of the main questions I'm often asked about the Seventh Generation product line is, "How do they make them so effective if the ingredients aren't these harsh chemicals?

It is a shame that French fries, potato chips, and corn chips are the mainstay vegetables of the American junk-food diet. Eat these foods in their real forms as part of a real meal. Minimize or avoid them in their junk-food forms. Carbohydrates from grains should be eaten in as wholesome a form as possible. Highly refined grains are stripped of important nutritional substances that give grains their health value. The best isoprenoid-containing fruits are signified by their deep color.
Fiber is found in whole grains, fruit, nuts, seeds, vegetables, and legumes. Eating a real-food diet provides the fiber you need. You can always supplement fiber to assist in bowel function and proper clearance of waste products from the digestive tract. Don't Be Afraid of Fat Almonds, walnuts, and sesame seeds can offer good nutritional support. These foods, higher in fat along with the protein they provide, need to be considered as part of the total calorie intake of a meal. Eggs take a lot of abuse.

FDA tyranny and the censorship of cherry health facts (opinion)

You can pig out on just about everything I list over here -- berries, vegetables and even nuts, although that's something I wouldn't consume pounds of a day. You can eat large, large quantities of these foods, and my guess is, if you're overweight, you'll probably lose weight, even consuming as much as you can handle. The challenge is not trying to individualize it; the challenge is speaking the truth about foods. I think that we need a guide that is simple enough that people can hand it to their friends, and say, "Here's the food guide I'm using. You can check it out, too.

Inulin is classified as a food ingredient (not as an additive) and is considered to be safe to eat.11 In fact, inulin is a significant part of the daily diet of most of the world's population.12 However, there is a report of a 39-year-old man having a life-threatening allergic reaction after consuming high amounts of inulin from multiple sources.13 Allergy to inulin in this individual was confirmed by laboratory tests. Of course, those vegetables will be nutritionally deficient, which means they won't be as healthy as they could be. They won't be as resistant to disease and pests, and they won't taste nearly as good either. So if you are eating tomatoes or produce grown in nutritionally depleted soils, then you are consuming inferior produce, and that's what's available in stores today. Here's a common question about minerals and produce: How do tomatoes or other plants know which minerals to absorb? The answer is that each plant has a different mineral absorption profile.

Ben: I know a lot of people come up with the excuse that healthier foods and vegetables tend to be more expensive than a lot of snack foods. You can go get a soda for 25 cents in some stores and then turn around and carrots are $1.50 a pound. Why do you think this is? Is it some sort of tax the food industry is trying to levy? Mike: No. First of all, I disagree with that assessment. I understand that people say that, and they say it to me all the time, too. Here's my answer to that. If you think that health foods are more expensive than unhealthy foods, then you need to learn how to shop.

What is a "normal" diet? Consumers and food industry pundits have it all backwards

Mike Adams, the Health Ranger

Society has been distorted by the food industry, which is why artificial foods are "normal" and vegetables are "extreme" We have a very strange culture in America today. People think that processed, manufactured, artificial foods -- the foods with cancer-causing chemicals -- are completely normal. Yet, at the same time, they think that foods from nature, for which your body has a built-in blueprint of compatibility, are completely abnormal. That's how distorted our culture has become.

When you look at the purification process, the first level is dealing with the substances, the SNACC. The second level is dealing with foods that we may we overdo, and the top three that can cause great problems -- the "big three" I call them -- are wheat, dairy products and sugar.

The best way to obtain extra potassium is to eat several pieces of fruit per day, as well as liberal amounts of vegetables. The amount of potassium found in the diet ranges from about 2.5 grams to about 5.8 grams per day. The amount allowed in supplements—99 mg per tablet or capsule—is very low, considering that one banana can contain 500 mg. One should not attempt to achieve higher potassium levels by taking large numbers of potassium pills. This concentrated form of potassium can irritate the stomach—a problem not encountered with the potassium in food.

This is especially true in fruits, vegetables, and other produce, but very few people understand the truth about this information, which is that most of the published values about this nutritional content are not correct. This is especially true among minerals, and that's the point of this story. Most of the produce you buy in a grocery store does not have anything close to the mineral profile it is supposed to have according to nutritional textbooks. This is because minerals are not manufactured by plants, whereas vitamins and phytonutrients are.
