I thought nutrition might help so I started drinking raw vegetable juices and became vegetarian. I started eating to detoxify myself and to get myself back to feeling stronger again.
"Then I got into meditation and kundalini yoga. I learned about energy centers and started to learn how inner energy flows through the system. I began to sense blockages, and to identify emotions and limiting thoughts that were holding me back. Through practice, I was able to center energy into the emotional center in the chest and into the abdomen where stabilizing rootedness can occur. |

For dinner, a large bowl of fresh vegetable salad (green and leafy), a large portion of unpeeled potatoes (baked or broiled) and raw grated carrots, red beets and onions. Sour milk or yogurt are permitted, but no drinks of any kind. Cooked fruits can be used for dessert. Forbidden items include salt, vinegar, any sharp spices or condiments, coffee, tea, tobacco, alcohol, white sugar in any form (sweets), white bread, meat, fish, and eggs. During the first few days, enemas are recommended to relieve constipation. They should then be discontinued. |
Okra is delicious when cooked or added to vegetable soup. For more effective medicinal purposes, it should be run through a juicer and the juice used for drinking and/or gargling for sore throat. It has also been found to be valuable for cases of inflammation of the membrane surrounding the lungs (pleurisy).
Celery For Heartburn!
Miss E.C. reports: "During my first pregnancy, I was prone to heartburn and discovered eating a stick of celery would relieve the discomfort. Celery was a must on our rides, trips or wherever we went. |
So I brought out my old vegetable juicer. I started with five glasses of cabbage juice the first day and almost at once, there was no pain. I continued this for another week, and then reduced it to three glasses per day. Both ulcers were healed when I had my check-up x-rays two months later. I am sure they were healed several weeks before the check-up because I had no pain or discomfort. I thought you might like to know it really works. |
It has been said that the juice of this vegetable helps the breaking up of oxalic acid crystals in the kidneys and throughout the muscular system, and is good for rheumatism and neuritis.
Reported Cases:
* One woman reports that asparagus therapy cured her kidney disease, which started in 1949. She had over 30 operations for kidney stones and was receiving government disability payments for "a terminal kidney condition—inoperable." She attributes the cure of this kidney trouble entirely to the asparagus therapy.

Kristine Nolfi, M.D., in her book My Experiences With Living Food, states that if garlic is not tolerated it is because of a deficiency in the digestive organs—especially the liver. A stomach or a liver in good condition, she says, will never rebel against an element as natural and beneficial as garlic.
Liver Ailments Relieved!
In his autobiography, Of Men and Plants, Maurice Messegue7 tells about his father. Peasants from miles around—and even the local doctor—consulted Messegue's father, Camille, because of his knowledge of healing plants. |
When talking with a naturopath he told us to take, first thing in the morning before anything else, one ounce of vegetable oil and follow with four ounces of grapefruit juice... we substituted four ounces of water with a teaspoon of vinegar. We were never bothered again with any pains... a year later we ran out of oil and did not use any for three weeks. The gall bladder pains returned, but immediately left as soon as we started the oil and vinegar water again. Now another year has gone and we are still not bothered with gall bladder pains."

Avoid fruit juices including orange juice, and rely on herb teas, warm soups, and vegetable juices.
• For sore throat pain, gargle with a teaspoon of salt dissolved in a glass of half warm water and half hydrogen peroxide. You can repeat hourly or as needed.
• Use a humidifier, particularly in your room at night.
• Don't exercise until the third or fourth day after the start of the cold, with the exception of light stretching exercises.
• If coughing is keeping you up at night, use an over-the-counter medication that will allow you to rest. |

The vegetable fields and fruit orchards of the Sun Belt, according to this study, receive the highest rates of application—especially of insecticides and fungicides. Dates, peaches, grapes, and tomatoes are sprayed with more fungicide (as measured in pounds of active ingredient per acre) than any other crops, for example. Pears, on the other hand, top the list of crops most heavily sprayed with insecticides. Corn ranks only eighteenth on the herbicide list. But because we grow so much of it, this crop alone consumes 53 percent of the total herbicides used in this country. |

In this flyer they make the statement that hydrolyzed vegetable protein is a natural source of "bound glutamate" and therefore is not dangerous. As we have seen this is not true. Sports supplements and weight loss products frequently contain either NutraSweet® or one of the other excitotoxins. Therefore be especially cautious in buying products from health food stores.
The person suffering from one of the neurodegenerative disease or at high risk for developing one of these diseases must be especially careful about ingesting excitotoxins. |

Mix the juice from each vegetable in equal proportion, and drink this combination throughout the day. A little cayenne, which increases circulation, sending blood to every corner of the body to promote healing, can be added for flavor. Lemon juice in water and different herbal teas—some good ones are parsley and dandelion tea for the liver and kidneys, and pau d'arco for blood purification— can be added for variety. "Any herbal tea free of caffeine will be good," Lom-bardi says. "Since you need to drink on an hourly basis, you don't want to drink the same thing over and over."

Combination Foods'
Combination foods do not fit neatly into any one of the above categories. Also, unless you make a combination food yourself—or it comes with the ingredients listed on the package—it's impossible to tell exactly what's in it. Below we list some popular combination foods. The third column indicates how these foods should be integrated into the food lists above. |

The couple assured us they're not lonely, nor are they alone, despite the fact that they live on the crest of a hill two miles outside the nearest town. Their housemates are six cats, a big shaggy Scottish sheepdog who seems to produce puppies on a fixed schedule, and George's loyal Irish setter. The dogs accompany them on long daily walks, sometimes to do errands in the town nestled in the valley below them. |

A typical imitation milk contains sodium caseinate (as the protein source), vegetable fat, corn syrup or dextrose, artificial color and flavor, and emulsifiers. Coffee lighteners or whiteners are a form of imitation milk. Sodium caseinate, although it originates from the cow, has been legally classified as a non-dairy ingredient because it has undergone changes and no longer simulates the calcium caseinate of whole milk from which it was derived. Sodium caseinate is soluble in water and forms a soft, easily digestible curd while calcium caseinate is soluble in water and forms a tough curd. |
Some states have erroneously classified it as a filled milk; however, filled milk by definition is cow milk with the animal fat replaced by a vegetable fat.
Human milk protein is approximately 80 percent whey and 20 percent curd or casein. Cow milk protein is almost precisely the opposite with slightly more than 80 percent of its protein being comprised of casein. The chemical composition of the whey and curd proteins of cow milk and human milk, however, are not identical. Whey proteins are believed to be nutritionally superior proteins. |
Corn oil, cottonseed oil, safflower oil, and other vegetable oils are rich in unsaturated fats. The ingestion of unsaturated fats makes serum cholesterol levels fall.
The first evidence of a relationship between diet and atherosclerosis was provided between 1910 and 1920 by a Russian investigator, Nikolai Anitschov. Rabbits fed a diet rich in fat and cholesterol quickly developed atherosclerosis. Since that time, many animal studies have produced atherosclerosis by means of diets rich in cholesterol.
It is obviously far more difficult to conduct similar experiments in man. |

Cereal was added to the diet at five months of age and a vegetable when the infants were six months old.
What happened? The overall death rate for the babies raised on human milk was 1.5 per 1,000 infants while the death rate in the babies fed cow milk was 84.7 per 1,000 infants during the first nine months of life. The death rate from gastrointestinal infections was forty times higher in the non-breast-fed infants, while the death rate from respiratory infection was 120 times higher.
An earlier analysis involving infants in eight American cities showed similar results. |

Now that we are aware that the hypothalamus is extremely sensitive to these substances, avoiding excitotoxins such as NutraSweet®, MSG, and hydrolyzed vegetable protein, is especially critical.
One reason the FDA has not issued a warning is that babies exposed to MSG and NutraSweet® are not born obviously deformed, as were those exposed, for example, to the drug Thalidomide. (The otherwise safe drug Thalidomide caused severe deformities of the arms and legs in the offspring of mothers using the drug early in their pregnancy. |
Remember that hydrolyzed vegetable protein contains very high concentrations of two excitotoxins—glutamate and aspartate.)
ENDOCRINE EFFECTS OF EXCITOTOXINS: HORMONES
In 1969 Dr. John W. Olney demonstrated that newborn mice exposed to high levels of glutamate developed extensive destruction of important groups of neurons in their hypothalamus.120 The worst damage was seen in the arcuate nucleus of the hypothalamus121 This nucleus controls important endocrine functions by regulating the amount of hormone-releasing factors secreted by the hypothalamus and the pituitary. |
At the center of this empire is the Ajinomoto Company which today produces most of the world's supply of MSG and a related taste-enhancing substance called hydrolyzed vegetable protein, which also contains MSG.
After World War II, American food manufacturers also discovered the virtues of this taste-enhancing substance. Soon all of the giants of the food industry, such as Pillsbury, Oscar Mayer, Libby's and Campbell's, were adding millions of pounds of MSG each year to processed foods. |
At least some of these foods contain hydrolyzed vegetable protein. Experimentally we know that the brain is extremely vulnerable to excitoxx m excitotoxins toxins even at this stage of development.
In this book I shall present research findings and discuss experiments that will demonstrate that glutamate and other excitotoxins can alter the way the brain is formed during development. |

A source of one of the EFAs—cis-linoleic acid, or cis-LA—is cold-pressed vegetable or seed oil (corn, safflower, sunflower, cottonseed). Your body supplies an enzyme that makes gamma linolenic acid (GLA) from cis-LA and this in turn becomes PGE1. (Human breast milk supplies GLA directly, but if you are an adult, this source dried up long ago.) If, as a child, you were hyperactive, fair, had eczema, asthma, and were unusually thirsty, you may have a genetic deficiency of the enzyme that helps make GLA. |
Mary's mother was told by all the medical personnel who dealt with this crippled, spastic, nonresponsive child that she should be institutionalized as she was a "just a vegetable." Undaunted, the mother tried a number of approaches. The Doman-Delacato method of patterning was frustrating because Mary's rigidity precluded all but a slight response; but she kept at it. Then Mary's mother asked Dr. Kane to try her methods. When Dr. |
We have all heard of desperate people who, trying to lose weight, went on a high protein, low fruit, low vegetable, and low grain diet. Unable to conserve potassium over the period of this dietary restriction, they died because of a heart arrhythmia, a fairly common condition if the serum potassium reaches a low level.
Crazy, unbalanced diets with either too much water or not enough of the essential salts that make these electrolytes lead inevitably to sickness, and, as we can see, even death.
Fluid Intake
Water intake is critical. |

A typical filled milk consists of skim milk or nonfat dry milk to which a (safer) vegetable fat has been added. Artificial color and flavor may be added as well. Filled milk looks, smells, and tastes like evaporated milk. It is cheaper and contains less cholesterol than whole milk.
Filled milk has had an interesting history in the United States. Its history reflects the power of the milk industry working in concert with the federal government. Fifty years ago Congress enacted legislation that prohibited the interstate transportation of filled milk. |

The Indians of North America, while they remained true to their native customs and foods, also were remarkably free from cancer. At one time, the American Medical Association urged the federal government to conduct a study in an effort to discover why there was so little cancer among the Hopi and Navajo Indians. |

Perlstein recommends the following daily nutrients for pregnant women:
Multiple vitamin/mineral supplement
Vitamin C
B12
Zinc
Vitamin E—400 units Folic acid
Folic acid, which is also contained in green leafy vegetable and whole grains, is especially important in pregnancy because science has shown it to prevent neural tube defects. Even when included in the diet, extra folic acid should be taken in supplement form as it is fragile and easily damaged by heat. Additionally, acidophilus helps prevent constipation and other types of colon problems. |
The actual procedure is as follows: Using warm vitamin E or vegetable oil, the mother places clean, oiled thumbs or index fingers an inch to an inch-and-a-half inside the vagina, and firm, gentle pressure is applied downward and outward. Stretching continues until a burning sensation is felt. This is held for a few minutes. Performing this once or twice a day, up until the time of delivery, can result in an easier birth."
