Whether it's a one-acre vegetable plot or a window box full of petunias, gardening relaxes you, stimulates your mind, and gives you a healthy workout, she says. Digging, pushing a mower, raking leaves, or spreading mulch can often burn as much energy as a brisk walk, she adds. "Gardening is an ideal way to get back in touch with the rhythms of life and get away from the extreme stress and pressure and lack of satisfaction that many jobs hold," says Dr. Relf. She presents these earthy tips to rejuvenate you the next time you feel plowed under. Weed out worries.

Basic dressing should be additive-free pure vegetable oils, varied as much as possible, with such added seasonings as you prefer. 3 squares of butter. 1 serving of oatmeal, whole-wheat, or other whole-grain cereal, additive-free, with 1 teaspoonful of undefatted wheat germ. Pancakes or waffles from good recipes—not commercial mixes—may be substituted. Whole or nonfat milk, added as you choose. A teaspoon or two of coarse miller's bran in the cereal will help to keep elimination normal. 2 eggs daily, in any form—as such, or as part of eggnogs, baked dishes, custards, etc.

Hemp Today

The emerging fresh vegetable canning industry in Wisconsin took over the hemp acreage. Need we have lost the domestic hemp industry? The problem was largely one of market development, which would have required a degree of government support and encouragement. But agencies which might have given that support were now dominated by other interests. The crop from Wisconsin was shipped to the east coast to be made into cordage, an economic disadvantage since substantial transportation costs were incurred.

Avoid becoming constipated by eating high-fiber vegetable foods before and during your cleanse, and use herbal laxatives only as a last measure. Headaches and fatigue are normal during detoxification; however, they should not last any longer than 24-36 hours. If they last longer than that, terminate your cleanse and restart when you feel stronger. Herxheimer die-off reactions may occur. It you experience flu-like symptoms that are severe or persist for more than six hours, this may be from microorganism die-off.
Diet and Fluids: Eat lightly, use chicken or vegetable soups, drink plenty of fluids. Lifestyle and Activity: Bed rest and avoid exertion. Use steam or a vaporizer to improve respiration and keep the mucous membranes moistened. Gargle with salt water for sore throat. Natural Medications: You may use the same herbal medications as for the common cold, but increase the dosage and take them for 10-14 days, even after symptoms subside. Gargle with myrrh tincture for sore throat.
Diet and Fluids: Increase fluids,- eat lightly of only chicken or vegetable soups. Lifestyle and Activity: Rest and reduce activity; inhaling steam from a warm vaporizer can be helpful. Natural Medications: There are numerous natural remedies, including vitamin C and zinc, that significantly improve cold symptoms and reduce the severity and duration of a cold; none actually cure this common viral condition. Ginger or cinnamon tea with honey is helpful; or choose herbal remedies from chapters 12 and 13.
At noon, have a lunch of vegetable soup and a mixed salad. 3. Repeat the afternoon schedule. 4. Have a normal meal in the evening and return to your normal routine on Monday. Very weak or elderly patients: People who are frail, very elderly, or weakened from disease may undergo cleansing therapies and even fasting, but only under the supervision of a qualified health care professional. Patients with serious infections: Those with serious viral infections, like HIV and HCV, should only undergo aggressive detoxification under the supervision of a qualified healthcare professional.

Give hungry children small, light, nutritious meals such as fruit or vegetable purees, soups, and porridge. Finally, talk reassuringly to your children about what is happening. The sound of your voice will be comforting to them. Explain clearly (even to a baby) what is wrong, and let them know how long the illness is likely to go on. Children who are sick can become more demanding and regress temporarily, sucking things, wetting the bed, and so on—sometimes even before the symptoms of the illness (e.g., rashes, swollen glands) appear.

The most common type of capsule is the geladn capsule but alternatives made from vegetable bases are available. Although capsules come in 3 sizes, two sizes are generally available. The -00- or "double ought" size is most commonly used. The smaller -0- or "single ought" capsule should be used if the -00- is difficult to swallow. Step 1: Collect capsules and powder. Step 2: Push the large open end of the capsule into the compacted powder. Step 3: When the large capsule end is stuffed full, push the smaller end into the large end. Step 4: Your capsule is ready to use.

A clay loam of rather loose texture and containing a plentiful supply of decaying vegetable matter or an alluvial deposit alkaline and not acid in reaction should be chosen for this crop. Soils to be Avoided Hemp will not grow well on still, impervious, clay soils, or on light sandy or gravelly soils. It will not grow well on soils that in their wild state are overgrown with either sedges or huckleberry bushes. These plants usually indicate acid soils. It will make only a poor growth on soils with a hardpan near the surface or in fields worn out by long cultivation.

High fever accompanied by sweating can cause loss of fluids and electrolytes; therefore, additional water, juices, and vegetable broths are necessary. Fluid loss to the point of dehydration may require hospitalization for intravenous fluid and electrolyte replacement. Fevers associated with common infections like colds or flu can be managed at home. Dr. N. C. A. Vogel, and other "Nature cure" doctors of previous decades, advocated a natural comprehensive management of fever. In his book, The Nature Doctor, Dr.

In modern times, and in decades past, advocates of expanded hemp production have called hemp fiber "the strongest vegetable fiber known to man" (Malyon and Henman, 1980). On the other hand, several reports state that hemp fiber is less flexible and elastic than flax (Hill, 1952; Kirby, 1963). Hill (1952) adds that hemp lacks flexibility and elasticity because it is more lignified than flax. Furthermore, Kirby (1963) and Berger (1969) believe that another limitation of hemp fiber's use in finer textiles is that the fibers are not easily bleached or dyed.

Glycerite, Vegetable: A glycerite is a plant preparation in a glycerin base. Glycerin is obtained from oils and fats as a by-product of the manufacture of soaps and fatty acids. It ranks between water and alcohol in its ability to dissolve plant constituents. Although not as strong a preservative as alcohol, glycerin can be used as an alternative for preserving herbs when alcohol consumption is a concern. It is also used in syrups and elixirs because of its sweet taste. A glycerite needs to have additional preservatives added to protect against microbial growth.

Less than a century ago hemp and flax were used more extensively than cotton, but the introduction of the cotton gin, followed by the rapid development of machinery all along the line for preparing and spinning cotton fiber, while there has been no corresponding development in machinery for preparing and spinning hemp or other long fibers, has given cotton the supremacy among vegetable fibers.
However, he was unable to locate reports describing the amino acid composition of hemp seeds, the basis of Herer's claim that hemp seed is the second most complete source of vegetable protein. Dr. Walker states, "Apparently, hemp is unique in that 65% of the storage proteins found in hemp seeds are globulin edestin." But he was unable to find literature on the value of edestin to human/mammalian nutrition. Globulins are one of seven classes of simple proteins (as adopted by the American Society of Biological Chemists). Edisten is contained in this class.

Miso contains a number of valuable bacteria such as lactobacilli which aid digestion by helping to break down carbohydrates, protein and the cellulose found in practically all vegetable food, including brown rice, carrots, barley and many others. Without these favorable bacteria, we cannot even digest healthy food properly. Furthermore, miso soup, as well as whole grains and seaweeds, seems to detoxify radiation poisoning and is a specific for environmental radiation poisoning and exposure to X rays.
However, vegetable sources of protein are, as in the case of the soya bean, even more abundant than meat and more efficiently metabolized with little or no harmful toxic by-products. Chinese and Ayurvedic nutritions consider meat to be the most powerfully nutritious food. Because animal cell structure is closest to our own, meat transmutes itself very efficiently in our own body cells. This is both a virtue and a possible danger. The amount of meat we eat should be very small as there is an eminent danger of excess.
To construct a simple balanced diet, the intake of foods can be divided into three categories: primary foods: Whole grains—20%-30% of the diet Protein, including animal protein, tofu, tempeh, and beans—20%-30% of the diet (Beans are also high in carbohydrates and should be consumed in smaller portions; vegetable sources of protein, such as tofu and tempeh, are not as 47 high in carbohydrates but need to be consumed in larger volume to equal a corresponding amount of animal protein.
A massage oil can be mde by combining vegetable oils such as olive, sesame and almond. It is useful for extracting herbs with aromatic oils and for applications where one wishes to massage the area being treated. Oils are preserved by adding a small amount of Vitamin E, about 400 IU per cup. Oils When the major properties of an herb are associated with its essential oils, an oil extract will prove to be a useful method of preparing a concentrate from fresh herbs. Oils are prepared by macerating and pounding the fresh or dried herbs in a mortar and pestle.
Fresh chickweed—12 ounces vegetable shortening or oil—16 ounces Beeswax—2 ounces Melt the shortening and beeswax in a pan, then combine ingredients and place in the oven in a stone jar for about three hours; strain through a fine wire strainer while hot. Comfrey Paste This formula, provided by Dr. Christopher, can be used topically to heal burns, fractures, sprains and cuts. For third degree burns, wash the affected area thoroughly and apply with a bandage. Do not disturb for three days, thus allowing formation of new skin tissue to take place.

If the patient craving sweets is a vegetarian, he or she probably could use more vegetable protein in the form of beans and tofu, or animal protein (if these foods can be tolerated), at least a little more cooked dairy (which is far less mucus-forming), or some eggs. For individuals who maintain that they already have sufficient daily amounts of protein in their diet, the problem could be more one of yang excess, where overindulgence in refined carbohydrates overloads and overworks their system and becomes a major contributor to the development of degenerative disease.

All flesh foods are more Yang than vegetable foods, and lean red meat is generally more Yang than fatty light-colored meat. The more Yang parts of a plant are the deep roots, requiring a long time to mature, harder leaves, barks, and stems. These generally aid in the Yang-warming processes of the body involved with maintaining and stimulating the immune system and circulation. Foods and herbs that are more Yin in quality can be balanced by preparing them in such a way as to accentuate their Yang qualities and vice versa.
