Drinking to quench thirst is enough to support a healthy milk supply.68 Women are frequently instructed to drink extra fluids to increase milk supply. This is a common misunderstanding, however, and excessive fluid intake should be avoided.69 Lifestyle changes that may be helpful It is best to avoid all unnecessary medications, herbs, and nutritional supplements when breast-feeding. Most prescribed and over-the-counter medications, when taken by a breast-feeding mother, are considered safe for the infant. However, a doctor should always be consulted before any medication is taken.

Soft cheeses, chocolate bars, chips, cakes packaged in paper and cardboard, gravy granules, vegetable burger mix, vegetable fat, and sausages have been found to contain phthalates. Fifty-nine samples from fifteen various brands of baby milk, tested by the ministry in Britain, all revealed phthalates. A follow-up study in 1998 showed that the levels of phthalates were considerably lower than those in the 1996 study. Phthalates have been found in fruit juices and distilled water, leached from the plastic packaging.

Smoothie Cleanse The Smoothie Cleanse is a general short-term (1 to 2 weeks) diet of fruit smoothies and vegetable juices and smoothies, which can be supplemented with green products for energy and with protein powder for those who have a higher caloric or protein need. Adding protein powder to your smoothies is especially important for those who do not want to lose weight, for athletes who don't wish to lower muscle mass, and for those with hypoglycemia (low blood sugar issues). Good quality protein powders are available from rice, milk (whey proteins), or soy (organic soy only).

From the diet section in part 4, use the low-protein High-Quality Diet with its strong emphasis on purple foods, raw foods, and fresh vegetable and grass juices. • Do the Basic Cleanse and Intestinal Sanitation as shown in part 1. • Use a Beck-type electronic zapper as explained in part 2. • Use the parasite herbs and wormwood or pau d'arco as described in part 3. • Use colloidal silver and occasional periods of oxygen therapy (see part 3). • Maintain a strong anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial program.
Lactobacillus bulgaricus can survive normal gastric acid (and make it into the intestines) and should be taken with meals, while other cultures are to be taken in a glass of water, in freshly pressed vegetable juice, or in herb tea (cooled down) 30 to 45 minutes before breakfast and possibly before other meals. Best known among the bacterial cultures is Lactobacillus acidophilus, which populates mainly the small intestines in omnivores or mixed-food eaters.
In regard to fat, butter is preferable to hydrogenated and chemicalized margarine and vegetable shortening. Avoid canola oil as it may have potentially harmful ingredients. Cold-pressed oils are preferable to conventional polyunsaturated oils, and those in plastic bottles should be avoided. Sensitive oils such as food-grade linseed oil should be extracted under nitrogen and kept in cold storage without exposure to light, for otherwise they are likely to be harmful. The only healthy way of obtaining polyunsaturated oils is by eating oil-containing seeds.
Use the hypoglycemia diet, with freshly ground linseed, fish oils, apricot oil, almond oil, almonds, sunflower kernels, raw egg yolk (sulfur), raw cabbage, horseradish, sprouted seeds, grass and vegetable juice, raw onions, and broth of fish heads. Avoid saturated fats, margarine, peanut butter, all hydrogenated and fried foods, dairy products, gluten, and sweet foods. Do the Basic Cleanse, have allergy testing, and maintain intestinal sanitation.
Preferably take fresh vegetable and grass juices before meals; have frequent interior cleanses on such juice, possibly also on fruits. Use food appropriate for your blood group and metabolic type. Sprouted broad beans are very high in lev-odopa, the precursor of the neurotransmitter dopamine, lacking in people with Parkinson's. Try five to 15 sprouted beans with breakfast, and use raw or blended in juice; if cooked, also ingest the cooking water. Black currants also contain levodopa.

The unripe fruit is eaten as a vegetable. Bitter melon is a green, cucumber-shaped fruit with gourdlike bumps all over it. It looks like an ugly cucumber. In addition to being eaten as a vegetable, unripe bitter melon has been used extensively in folk medicine as a remedy for diabetes. The blood sugar-lowering action of the fresh juice or extract of the unripe fruit has been clearly established in human clinical trials as well as experimental models.34 Bitter melon is composed of several compounds with confirmed antidiabetic properties.

This included fresh fruit and vegetable juices, a vegetable broth, fresh liver juice, and foods high in potassium to counterbalance what Gerson considered the oversalting of modem foods. One unusual aspect of Gerson's regimen for cancer patients was a daily coffee enema to cleanse the body. This eventually became a source of jollity within the establishment—"With cream or sugar?" they invariably asked. But Gerson's patients were articulate witnesses, and Senator Pepper's committee was not unfriendly to the unorthodox physician.

Most of a potato's mineral content is found just underneath the skin, while its vitamins and starch content are in the center of the potato. The skin is also a good source of fiber. However, unless you are buying organic potatoes, you may want to peel them. Steam potatoes instead of boiling to avoid losing the potassium.

I have had many patients with diabetes and low blood sugar do fine with detox programs since the calorie intake is lower than usual and the food choices are typically healthier. Other supplements can be used to balance the sugar issues, such as the blue-green algae just mentioned, as well as protein powders, the minerals chromium and vanadium, adrenal glandular, B vitamins, and vitamin C.
