The Einstein Factor: A Proven New Method for Increasing Your Intelligence

Stick to whole grains and well-washed raw fruits and vegetables as much as possible. The best time to visit an allergist is before you become pregnant, so you'll know exactly which substances to avoid. Obviously, these guidelines are all subject to your doctor's advice. For medical reasons, you may have to eat certain foods, stick to a certain weight, or take certain drugs that would not necessarily be optimum for your baby's brain growth. The best insurance is prevention. Being in the best possible health before you get pregnant will minimize the need to put your baby's future IQ at risk.

We're learning about the super healing powers of fruits such as blueberries and raspberries. We're seeing more research on garlic and how garlic can prevent cancer. We're also seeing research on ginseng and how ginseng extracts prevent colds and flus during the flu season. The list goes on and on. Research is finally starting to show that diseases are not only prevented, but in many cases reversed, by consuming foods as medicine. And that's good news, because that's the kind of research that empowers people.

Two exceptions: watermelon and pineapple have a higher GI than other fruits. ţPasta is a low-GI food. Surprising, but true. ţBarley, bulgur, and parboiled (converted) rice all have a low GI value. ţPumpernickel and rye breads have a lower GI value, while wheat varieties such as bagels, white bread, and even whole wheat bread have a higher GI. ţYams and sweet potatoes are low-GI foods in contrast to baking potatoes, which have a high GI. ţAmong breakfast cereals, oatmeal and bran cereals have a lower GI, while most cold cereals tend to have a high GI.

They ate frequently in restaurants, avoided fruits and vegetables. Given ascorbic acid, they responded in a few days. Vitamin C Controversy Despite Dr Szent-Gyorgyi's discovery of the therapeutic value of vitamin C in treating scurvy, very few people knew about vitamin C until Professor Linus Pauling published his book on Vitamin C and the Common Cold in 1970. There was a marked increase in sales of vitamin C as a result - and a marked increase in debate over the therapeutic value of nutrient supplements, especially when taken in optimum or megadoses.
To derive this amount of vitamin C from our diet would require eating huge quantities of fruits and vegetables - more than 100 oranges each day, for example. Rather than overeat, we can supplement our diet with synthetic ascorbic acid, which is readily available and very inexpensive. The maximum recommended oral dose of vitamin C is 75 g each day, but very few can tolerate this extremely high dose because it exceeds the laxative dose. While the majority of people take under 12 g per day, it is best to think in terms of the optimum tolerable dose. You can determine this for yourself.
He was further instructed to have one salad daily in addition to increasing his intake of fruits and vegetables (no exact amount was specified). Two days after commencing the dietary and niacin treatment, the patient felt a sense of improved well being and increased energy, with significant improvement in his throat irritation and perianal swelling. However, by the end of the first 2 days of treatment, the patient experienced a superficial rash with swelling and pruritus along the upper thorax, with the axilla and inner thighs being the areas most affected.

This cleanse involved eating fruits and vegetables, followed by the elimination of all meals. Eventually, she was not consuming any foods, but was substituting all meals with a nutritional shake. Two days after initiating the cleanse, she started to note changes in her bowel functioning. For the next 7 months, her bowel movements became thinner and were less formed with occasional mucous. She would cycle between loose stools and very hard ones. Daily fiber supplementation was necessary in order to have a daily bowel movement. After every meal, she would always have uncomfortable gas.

I find that absolutely amazing, and I think that households in the future will all be engaged in growing these health-enhancing fruits and vegetables using aeroponic systems in order to enhance their health. I think every family that can afford one will have a growing unit right in their house, and they will be pulling berries right off the vine and eating those, and they will be grabbing zucchini or okra or tomatoes right off the vine -- right in this growing unit -- and eating those raw. That's how people are going to stay healthy in the future, not by downing a dozen meds every day.

Whole food nutritional supplements offer better health benefits than isolated vitamins and minerals

Personally, I eat them both: fruits and vegetables for enjoyment and calories, combined with whole food concentrates for nutrition. Avoid isolated vitamins and minerals I also recommend that you move away from isolated vitamins and minerals. So forget about those cheap, low-cost bottles of vitamin C, vitamin E or those B vitamins you might find at the wholesale clubs, pharmacies or grocery stores. These are typically not going to do you very much good, because your body doesn't need just vitamin C; your body needs a whole complement of vitamins from a lot of different sources.
This is the best way to be sure that you're getting a full complement of fruits, vegetables, mushrooms, microalgae, and other food sources that can provide peak nutrition for you. High-density whole food concentrates provide real nutrition In the world of holistic nutrition, we take whole foods from nature that are grown organically, or we take microalgae and other superfood supplements, and we dry them, grind them up, put them into powders, and then encapsulate those powders or shape them into pills or tablets. That's the way to get your nutrition in the modern world.

New protein shake from Nature's Way There's now a protein shake mix offered by Nature's Way that has the exact same name -- the Alive Whole Food Energizer Protein Drink, or something similar. It might be called a meal replacement drink. I've checked this out, as I was quite excited to see this on the shelf, so I immediately went to read the ingredients label, and found that, unfortunately, it is sweetened with fructose.

Although more than 40 phytosterols have been identified, (3-sitosterol, campesterol, and stigmasterol are the most abundant and are the most effective at reducing cholesterol levels. Stanols are saturated molecules produced by the hydrogenation of sterols but are less abundant in nature [228]. The mechanisms by which plant sterols and stanols lower cholesterol levels involve the displacement of cholesterol from micelles, thus reducing intestinal cholesterol absorption and increasing fecal cholesterol excretion [229, 230].

In particular, plants that attract pollinators or browsers by producing attractive flowers or fruits to facilitate their reproduction or dispersal often evolve protection to minimize the damage such visitors may cause.4 As a result, for human beings, it is very often the case that foods and drugs come from the same plant.5 It is possible that these attracting functions in part connect these dimensions of selectivity with the ones mentioned earlier, i.e., the visibility which allowed our historical mother to find them a second time.

It is especially important to eat plenty of fresh and raw fruits and vegetables, drink plenty of water and herbal teas, and eat a lot of foods rich in omega-3 oils. Natural Remedies In addition to the above, there is also a whole range of natural and herbal medicines that can be used to enhance the nervous system. Many appear to be very effective, such as ginkgo biloba extract for memory loss and Saint-John's-wort for depression. First make sure that you are getting all the nutrients, and once any nutritional deficiencies have been sorted out, then move on to herbal remedies.

Under the title "Do Pao da Cobra" he reports how the local inhabitants discovered the use of snakeroot: On the wonderful island of Ceylon, which is rich in numerous and excellent fruits as well as small and large game, there are also plenty of snakes, named by the population spectacle snakes, in Latin we could name them Regulus serpens. Against them God gave this "snake wood." I know it helps against their bite. Because on this island there are animals, similar to ferrets, which are called quil (others say qurpele). They often fight with these snakes.
The fruits cure coughs and coated tongue; the pulverized dry leaves are applied to ulcers and yaws; and the twigs and leaves are used for tanning fishnets in Nigeria.85 In Congo the young leaves of Alchornea cordifolia are used in a decoction against caries.86 Neuwinger documents its use against dysentery, bronchitis, toothache, caries, yaws, ulcers, wounds, fever, gonorrhea, gum inflammation, eye infection, and other symptoms.87 Photos 5.3 to 5.8 show the preparation and application of Alchornea cordifolia for a patient with an abscess.
Many were—and still are—consumed as foodstuffs, with different categories: vegetables (onion, garlic, and leek, for example), cereals (barley and wheat), condiments (origanum, sage, coriander), or fruits (pomegranate and fig). Others, instead, were—and still are—typical of the Mediterranean biota. Pomegranate, cypress, laurel, fig tree, and olive tree contribute to create the maquis, garigue, and thicket of the Mediterranean area, with the perfume they emanate at the end of a hot summer day. Parsley, fennel, and anise, instead, punctuate open spaces with their high stems and their umbels.
Cyanidins in some fruits are also weak xanthine oxidase inhibitors, and it has been suggested that eating half a pound of cherries per day would be a therapeutic option!4 For acute attacks, the most rapidly effective conventional treatment is colchicines (see Photo 18.1). This alkaloid was first isolated from the meadow saffron (Colchicum autumnale) in 1814. Colchicine suppresses the release of inflammation-causing chemicals from the white blood cells; unfortunately, many people are unable to tolerate it because of gastrointestinal side effects.

I encourage my MS patients to increase their intake of raw fruits and vegetables and to stay away from chemical preservatives and processed foods. They avoid tap water and limit their intake of eggs. Also, new studies have shown that vitamin D has a powerful effect on the aging brain, especially for MS patients, given that it preserves the membranes of the body, such as myelin. Vitamin D can be found in fortified milk, as well as in supplement form and through brief, regular exposure to sunlight.

In fact, Jane Goodall and other researchers have observed them rolling fruits inside of leaves and eating them as "sandwiches." Yet, there is another great misconception which results from placing greens and vegetables into the same category. Such inappropriate generalizations have lead researchers to the erroneous conclusion that greens are a poor source of protein. Contrary to this popular belief, greens are an excellent source of protein, as you will see in the following chapter. I propose that we separate greens from vegetables, now and forevermore.
Ct Of ft'Ofemf "I submit that scientists have not yet explored the hidden possibilities oj the innumerable seeds, leaves and fruits for giving the fullest possible nutrition to mankind." MAHATMA GANDHI very protein molecule consists of a chain of amino acids. An essential amino acid is one that cannot be synthesized by the body, and therefore must be supplied as part of the diet. Humans must include adequate amounts of 9 amino acids in their diet. Professor T. Colin Campbell shows in his book, The China Study, that the U.S. RDA for protein is greatly overestimated.

How to Take Flavonoid Supplements As with carotenoids, the best way to obtain a diverse selection of flavonoids is by eating a diet with a healthy range of vegetables and fruits. The reason is simple: no supplement can provide the variety of flavonoids found in foods. • People at risk of inflammatory diseases, heart disease, or cancer may wish to take extra flavonoids in the form of supplements. Consider taking 50 to 200 mg of either Pycnogenol or grapeseed extract, or 500 to 1,000 mg of citrus flavonoids, daily.

Round out a meal with any additional fruits and vegetables you like even if they don't appear in the acetylcholine list at right. Choline is a natural component of plants and animal products. Foods highest in choline are egg yolk, meat, liver, and cereals. Unfortunately, often the best sources of choline are foods with high fat content, exactly the types of food people want to avoid when they are trying to lose weight. Consequently, when we diet, we maybe unconsciously decreasing our choline intake, which is especially worrisome for those of us with an acetylcholine deficiency.
GOALS FOR THE RAINBOW DIET At each meal, try to eat 80 percent fruits, vegetables, and grains and 20 percent protein food. Your protein should be fish as much as possible, but can also include chicken, turkey, and beans. Stay away from red meat and fried foods. Eat garlic, as it promotes healthy blood flow. Avoid caffeinated beverages, especially if you have high blood pressure. Take a multivitamin with minerals, antioxidants (especially vitamin C, vitamin E, and zinc), linoleic acid, and coenzyme Q10. Eat less saturated fat to avoid cholesterol problems.
