However, it appears from our findings and others that polyphenols similar to those contained in berry fruits such as blueberries can activate protective pathways to reduce the deleterious effects of inflammation and oxidative stress. Additionally, previous research has shown that under OS or inflammatory conditions, polyphenols similar to those contained in blueberries, tea, red wine, or ginkgo biloba altered signaling in ERK activity (e.g., see [258, 259], as well as PKC [260, 261] and CREB [262] in several models described next).

Agticultural philosopher Wendell berry argues that economies can be based on either industrial or agrarian ideals, and that an agrarian society need not be a subsistence society lacking technological sophistication and material well-being. He sees industrial societies as based on the production and use of products, whether fundamental to survival (food) or manufactured along with the desire for it (pop tarts). In contrast, an agrarian economy is based on local adaptation of economic activity to the capacity of the land to sustain such activity. |

HYDROXYCITRIC ACID
Hydroxycitric acid, a natural product that comes from the rind of the Indian brindle berry (Garcinia), is sold as the natural product garcinia and is promoted to aid weight loss and relieve gastrointestinal discomfort. It has been shown to inhibit the enzymes that convert compounds into coenzyme A, thereby blocking the storage of energy as fat. There is no good evidence to support its claimed ability to promote weight loss.

When Mayor Marion berry spoke about his city (Washington, D.C.), he stated that "outside the killings, Washington has one of the lowest crime rates around." Of course, he was not including the collateral damage incurred by actions of Congress and the President. When politicians succeed in protecting and/or promoting the well-being of pharmaceutical corporations, the possibility for collateral damage balloons. But since no one tracks this kind of corporate crime, this collateral damage is not viewed as criminal, and goes unrecognized, unreported, and unprosecuted. |

The distinction in Berry's view is that agriculture and manufacturing in an agrarian society would be tailored to the local landscape. While it is difficulr to reconcile current ttends with this vision for an agrarian economy, a reoriented capitalism is not unimaginable. After all, today's quasi-sovereign global corporations were inconceivable just a few centuries ago.
Agriculture has experienced several revolutions in historical times: the yeoman's revolution based on relearning Roman soil husbandry and the agtochemical and green revolutions based on fertilizer and agrotechnology. |

Some think it's the juniper berry extract used to make gin. Others insist that the sulfite preservative used to bleach golden raisins provides the magic. One woman offered this: "I've been amused by your discussions of gin-soaked raisins for arthritis. My Dutch mother soaked diced dried apricots in gin for 2 weeks before consuming them.
